Psychiatry, Behavior and the Mind

Psychiatry is considered a modern science, with many questions and controversies around each and every topic and disorder of the field coming from different directions. Psychitaric disorders are among the most common and the most disabling conditions a human being can suffer from. have you ever wondered why a family member or a friend who was very social and extroverted, changes all of a sudden and do not even respond to your calls? you might have judged them hard, but do you they might have been suffering from a common condition like depression? which might affect daily activity and daily energy of an individual. in this course, common psychiatric disorders like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia will be discussed, why it happens, how it happens and how it manifests and how to recognize them. also, myths on each disorder will be debunked. students will actively participate on drawing a line between normal human behavior and feeling and abnormal human behavior and feeling. also, the topic of free will is going to be discussed and students will share their ideas of where do they think our behaviors originate and how they happen and wether human beings are responsible for their actions. students common questions on each topic will also be taken of carefully in detail. substances, how to deal with the question of death and abnormal beliefs are going to be other specific sessions of this course

Koyar Sherko Meerwayes

Koyar is a Kurdish medical doctor who is currently doing a board in psychiatry and works at a mental health hospital and lives in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. He used to teach the Cambridge psychology A and AS level at a British International in Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. His passion for mental health and raising awareness on mental health has reflected on his jobs in the last 4-5 years, he also used to work a health anchor at one of the biggest channels in the region to help raise awareness and reduce stigma. He will be teaching a course on psychiatry, human behavior and the mind, he might have the answers for the questions you’ve always had on why someone behaves the way they do? besides his knowledge in his field, he is also very passionate about football, particularly European football, he plays the game too. You may have in depth football conversations with him too.
