Mariana Mitkovová
Mariana is a Biomedical Genetics student at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. Originally from Prague, she was inspired to study abroad after her first Discover in 2021. Before starting university, she completed internships in IVF and embryology, which sparked her passion for genetics. She earned bronze, silver, and gold medals in the DofE programme, so she knows a thing or two about surviving wet tents on rainy expeditions. One of her favourite DofE experiences was meeting Prince Edward along the way. Mariana enjoys trying new things, from joining the surf society to volunteering with the Marrow Society, helping to raise awareness about blood cancer and collecting stem cell swabs. She has been playing the piano for over 13 years and enjoys discussing music, especially her favourite composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff. She also stays active with Pilates, yoga, and Les Mills. At university, she misses her dog, Coffee, every day, but finds comfort in her friendships and in connecting with new people. She is always happy to talk about genetics, share her experience of studying abroad, or simply enjoy a good conversation, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
