General Microbiology
Microbiology is a very interesting topic to begin with, and this is because everything around us and the universe at large revolves around these tiny organisms. For starters, this course only requires general knowledge of biology, and it will be taught through discussions, Q&A, and PowerPoints.
Do you know that these organisms can thrive in any condition, be it extremely high or low temperatures, acidic or alkaline, and in the presence or absence of oxygen? Most of us drink yogurt, but do you really know that microorganisms are used in yoghurt production?
Well, they can do more than just yoghurt, so why would you learn about microorganisms? Microorganisms have impacts on health, balance nature by decomposition and providing food, clean the environment, industrially make cheese and antibiotics, and improve agricultural production.
This course introduces the topic, describes basic features of microbes, and discusses applications of microbiology in the present day. We are hopeful that by the end of this program, the learners will be able to understand applications of microbiology and develop an interest in various fields of microbiology, thus considering or may consider microbiology for further studies after high school
